The Pre-Alpine Karst Awaits!
Karst landscape covers as much as 44% of slovenian territory. Because we grow up surrounded by it and live alongside it, it has become such an integral part of our lives that we sometimes do not even recognize it as “karst.”
We notice it when we look across the grey peaks of limestone mountains; when we turn on the tap and fresh, cold water flows from underground aquifers; or when we use sand from a nearby dolomite[A.1] quarry for construction.
The eastern part of Slovenia is home to a wealth of magical karst phenomena, which leave a lasting impression due to their uniqueness and distinctiveness.
Dormouse Educational Trail
The forest geological educational trail takes you past natural, karst, cultural, and historical landmarks. The trail is equipped with informative educational panels.
